MORAL OBLIGATION

I am the conscience of the world.

I am Ignorance; I am Want!

You may close your door upon me;

But my beckoning will remain for you, in front!

The poor, the oppressed, you may provide aid;

But the choice to pass you have made.

Privacy, close mindedness provide no relief;

A price will be paid if you fail to believe.

What power you hold for that moment given;

Where you to the top of the ladder have risen!

But remember a building on foundations weak;

Will fall crashing down where it shall break.

A footpath is not built on the blood of the poor;

In time immemorial it will not last;

It shall soon be eroded by those who will pass;

Having values greater or lesser than yours!

The weak are held for only so long;

In chains that are to bind them down.

At some point freedom is fought for;

They develop resistance until they are strong.

Knowledge and awareness are gained.

Leadership is developed step by step.

Sacrifices of life are easily made;

Until control of destiny is obtained.

Those who wield power have responsibility;

They must have concern for the majority.

Force is a tool equally applied;

By those who will create their own history.

You cannot determine your life span!

Each day that passes gives an account;

The ledger sheet records your contribution;

To the uplifting of the lowest child, woman or man.

There may be one controller overall;

But there are a multitude of bookkeepers.

Each has an influence over structure;

A building block is formed in the tower tall.

I am Ignorance! I am Want!

Your conscience that stands affront.

Give generously of time and talent;

That life's joys may be apparent.

Caution! Beware short sightedness!

The mild and the meek abide;

That trust and hope may be fulfilling;

Greet each day resolute to advance the hopeless.
